Dry stone Walling
Dry stone walls have been part of the landscape for hundreds of years. Many miles still exist but some walls have been neglected. Dry stone walls provide a habitat for insects, mice, voles, shrews and provide a nesting site for some birds. Flora can also be found in them like stone crop, herb Robert, ferns and ivy leaved toadflax . We carry out the building of new walls and repair of dry stone walls.
Hedge layingHedges are probably one of the oldest methods used to enclose land in the UK. They are of great value to birds which use them as a food source and to nest in. Over the past 100 years many miles of hedges have been pulled out in order to make fields bigger for intensive farming. And many of the hedges that are left are neglected . In time the bottom of the hedge will thin out leaving it gappy. This is why hedge laying is important, it keeps the hedge low, stock proof and maintains a food source and nesting place for small birds.
We carry out the planting of new hedges, maintenance and improvement of old ones and hedge laying.
Woodland Planting
Planting a woodland adds a whole new habitat value to a piece of land. It provides shelter, nesting sites and food to a wide range of species. Many of the existing woodlands have been neglected and the structure has gone. We at JTP Conservation services can plan, create and maintain new and existing woodland.
